Ruby Village is like Ft. Yukon both are the only Villages built on the South Side of the River instead of the North. The largest gold nugget in Alaska was discovered in Ruby and Ruby is still and active gold mining community. Poorman Highway was to run to McGrath and was started under President Franklin D. Roosevelt but lost its funding after 38 miles and is now a popular snow machine trail and the Iditarod Race Drivers use it to on their way to Nome. Gold panning is still a major activity, great fishing and hunting, wonderful Wildlife Viewing, and Artisan who produce traditional Art works, Fur products and Birch Bark Baskets.
