Welcome to Alaska Yukon River Expedition, offering visitors a Unique and Truly Once in a lifetime Experience River Boating down the Yukon River, where you will meet the real people of Alaska, see the real Alaska, and discover the Wild Alaska Yukon River. The Alaska Yukon River Expedition will begin in the Village of Circle and end in the Village of Holy Cross, visiting a total of fourteen unique Alaskan Villages all with a history going back 2,000 years before the arrival of the Non-Natives.
Yukon means "great river" in Gwich'in Athabascan and the Yukon river was called Kwiguk, or "large stream", in Yupik.
The Yukon River flows through several Preserves and Refuges including: Innoko National Wildlife Refuge, Nowitna National Wildlife Refuge, Yukon Charley Rivers National Preserve, Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge, and Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge.
